A short summary of our winter sports endeavors follows:
As we enter the heart of basketball season, we have teams that have just started with games and teams that have played 3 or 4 already. We have 13 teams this season at SMS ranging from 3rd through 8th grade, boys and girls. On any given Saturday, St. Matthew’s School hosts between 7 and 8 games.
The youth division (3rd and 4th graders) do not keep records of wins and losses in the regular season. However, if you wish to come out and watch a game, the games will begin at 8:00, 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning. Score is kept during the games but records are not.
The junior division (5th and 6th graders) typically play 1 or 2 games on any given Saturday. The times vary each week. At this time, each of our junior teams (3 girls teams and 2 boys teams) already have at least one victory on the season after only playing 3 or 4 games.
The senior division (7th and 8th graders) typically play 1 or 2 games on Saturday also. Similar to the junior teams, the times vary each week. Also, each senior team (2 girls and 2 boys teams) have two victory’s on the season after only playing 3 or 4 games.

Senior Girls 1 is coached by Daniel Vaughan Record is currently 4-0
Senior Girls 2 is coached by Dawn Donaldson Record is currently 3-1
Senior Boys 1 is coached by Adam Woods Record is currently 2-1
Senior Boys 2 is coached by Mark Wood Record is currently 3-1
Our cheerleaders are present at various home games each Saturday. The younger team, which consists of 24 cheerleaders, usually cheers for morning games. The older team, which also consists of 24 cheerleaders, usually cheers for two games in the afternoons.
The cheering coaches are Ali Thomas, Samantha Phillips and Sabrina Arehart.
