Important RenWeb information regarding lunch – If you have placed an order online and wish to cancel, you must do so before 8:00 am the day of, either by using RenWeb (change the “1” to a “0” and save) OR email the homeroom teacher to have him/her cancel for you. You MUST do this, even if you student is absent for the day. When a student is not present in the morning but has ordered lunch, we assume the student will be tardy and still needs to eat. We must have our lunch order in early in the morning so that the cafeteria staff can prepare enough food. If you do not cancel your student’s lunch by 8:00 am, you will be charged, regardless of whether the student is present or not. The only time you will not be billed for an ordered lunch is when your student goes home unexpectedly in the morning.
Important RenWeb information regarding Emergency Contacts – Parents will always be the first people called in the event of an emergency. If you cannot be reached, your emergency contacts will be called. It is therefore imperative (and a state law) that you have TWO LOCAL contacts listed. Please follow these guidelines:
Do not list yourselves as Emergency Contacts
List the non-parent emergency contact AND a good phone number.
Do not list the same number twice (for example, your Emergency Contact has no home phone so you type the cell number in both places)
You may combine spouses on one line if they share a number (ex:John or Mary Jones)
Do not also list the Emergency Contact as a pickup person. Emergency Contacts already have pickup privileges.
In most cases, this will give you six emergency contacts (two parents first plus four listed) and ten people allowed to pick up (two parents, four emergency contacts and four pickup people). You can always send in a note if someone else will be picking up your child. If you make changes in RenWeb, please allow three school days for the changes to reach the necessary parties.
ATTENTION ALL SMS BAKERS!
TREASURES OF THE KITCHEN is a wonderful SMS tradition for our Annual Auction! We need you to bake or donate your favorite dessert, pie, cake, cookies, etc! Your baked goods will be included in our silent auction. Please consider helping this year by including your favorite dessert to raise money for our school!
If you are interested in donating a dessert, please contact Kristin Grabill and Lara Gaston ASAP at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
Coach Needed! Our third grade girls are in need of a basketball coach. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Johnny Hedinger at email@example.com.
The Business Office will be closed on Thursday, October 19th.
From the Art Room – Students are asked to bring an old t-shirt, preferably oversized, to use as their “smock” for art. They will store their smocks in their classroom, bring their smocks to art class each time, and take their smocks back to their classroom after art. Please put your child’s name in the smock. The smock will not be used every week. We will remind the students to take their smocks home to be laundered. Art smocks are used to protect your child’s clothing from stains which could be caused by acrylic paint, oil pastel, clay, glue, or plaster. Many of these mediums will permanently stain clothing. Therefore, a smock must be brought to art each week and worn when requested. Thank you for your help.
Reminder – Friday, October 20th is Chick-Fil-A Day. You need to place your order by Wednesday, October 18th at 6:00pm. Otherwise, your child will need to bring lunch October 20th. No other lunch will be served. The only exception is Preschool, who will be served lunch or may order Chick-Fil-A for the same charge of $6.00.
If anyone has a beach house or knows someone with one that could donate a week or weekend to the preschool auction basket, please contact Samantha Phillips at

Boosterthon Fun Run is less than 2 weeks so let’s make this a great Fundraising Event for SMS! This year’s main fundraiser is the Fun Run! It’s a 9-day program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on October 16th. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on October 25th. With our big goal of raising $30,000 for a chromebook cart, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easier, and fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, CASTLE QUEST! – an English castle theme all about being brave and living with character. On their quest to regain Bravemore Castle, students will learn the “SIX VIRTUES of a TRUE HERO” from a cast of colorful characters.
Donations will go toward the chromebook cart and to the entire 9-day experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS – October 3, 2017 at 9:00 in the front parking lot. On Tuesday, October 3rd, we will celebrate something that St. Francis of Assisi started almost 800 years ago: blessing our animals. It was Francis who first introduced the idea that human beings are only one of a myriad of creations of God and all are blessed in God’s “eyes.” The feast day of St. Francis (the day that he died) is celebrated every year on October 4th.
Students are encouraged to bring a picture of their pet or a stuffed animal to represent their pet. Parents are invited to bring their furry, spiky, slimy, feathery friends; great and small are welcome, just make sure they are on a leash and secured safely! Students should also bring a towel or small blanket to sit on during the blessing of the animals.
Congratulations to our 2017 Eagle Egg Drop Winners:
