Basketball
St. Matthew’s plays in the Tidewater Catholic Basketball League (TCBL) which is offered to students in grades 3-8. Students in grades 3-4 play at the Youth level; 5-6 at the Junior level; 7-8 at the Senior level. Registration starts approximately the first week of October, with practices starting the first week of November. The regular season consists of 14 games played predominantly on Saturdays with the possibility of Friday games during the Tournament. The tournament will be held over two weekends in February following the weekend after the last regular season game. Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and other regular volunteers are always needed, and must be VIRTUS-trained.

Soccer
St. Matthew’s plays in the Eastern Tidewater Independent Schools (ETIS) conference and Beach FC in the Fall season. The sport is offered to students in grades PreK thru 8th. PreK through 5th grade compete through Beach FC and Middle School boys compete within ETIS. Registration for both leagues typically starts in August. The season runs through September and October. Beach FC games are typically held on weekends at Williams Farm Park or at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex (HRSC). The Middle School Boys team has games on weekdays at various locations against conference and non-conference teams. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Middle School Boys team competes in the ETIS Tournament. Coaches, Assistant Coaches and other regular volunteers are always needed, and must be VIRTUS-trained.

Volleyball
St. Matthew’s plays in the ETIS (Eastern Tidewater Independent Schools) league during the Fall season. The sport is offered to students in grades 6-8. Pre-season assessment takes place in the Spring and Summer. Registration typically starts in August. The season usually runs from August through October in which they may play games against conference and non-conference teams. At the conclusion of the regular season, the teams compete in the ETIS Tournament. Assistant Coaches and other regular volunteers are always needed and must be VIRTUS-trained.

Cheerleading
The St. Matthew’s Cheerleading Program is a high energy, team-based program that focuses on supporting our school. Athletes learn the fundamentals of cheerleading in dance, cheers, jumps, tumbling, and stunting at all levels.
The Junior and Senior Teams show team spirit while supporting the basketball program during games and half time performances. The Senior Team has the opportunity to showcase and compete in the TCBL Cheerleading Competition against other teams in the area.
1st through 8th graders are eligible to sign up for this program.

Cross Country
St. Matthew’s competes against other Diocesan and independent schools during the Fall Season. The sport is offered to students in grades 4th thru 8th. Registration typically begins in August, with the season running from August to the first week of November. Cross Country meets are typically 2-mile courses at various locations, with the possibility of some 5K meets offered to middle school athletes. A Championship Meet is hosted by Catholic High School in Virginia Beach at the close of the season. Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and various other volunteers are always needed, and must be VIRTUS-trained.

Track & Field
St. Matthew’s competes against other Diocesan and independent schools during the Spring Season. The sport is offered to students in grades 4th thru 8th. Registration and practices typically begin in February, with the season concluding in early to mid-May.
All athletes may compete at Track & Field meets in the following events: 4x800M Relay, 4x100M Relay, 4x400M Relay,100M Dash, 200M Dash, 400M Dash, 800M Run, 1600M Run, and Long Jump. Middle school athletes may also compete in the following events: 100M and 110M Hurdles, 300M Hurdles, Triple Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, and Discus. Middle school athletes may also have the opportunity to compete in the 3200M Run if they are competing in the JV Division of a High School Level Meet. A Championship Meet, consisting of both an Elementary Division and Middle School Division, is hosted by Catholic High School in Virginia Beach at the close of the season. Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and various other volunteers are always needed, and must be VIRTUS-trained.
Golf
Golf season takes during the Spring season. The sport is offered to students in grades 6-8, and as a JV program for other students. Pre-season assessment takes place in the Spring. Registration typically starts in February. The season runs from late March through May. All practices and matches take place at The First Tee golf course in Virginia Beach. Matches are Friday after school, and practices are held one day a week after school. At the conclusion of the regular season, all teams compete in the Final Tournament. Assistant Coaches and other regular volunteers are always needed and must be VIRTUS-trained. If a student is interested or has questions they may contact the golf coach Ben Reynolds.
