On May 10th, we are having a Panda Express Day, but the cafeteria is closed due to Carnival.  No other food or snacks will be available.  If students do not order Panda Express, they must bring their own lunches.

Don’t know what to get Mom for Mother’s Day?! (It’s May 13th) How about a Carnival Digital Banner to say thank you for all she does?! For $150 you can sponsor a digital banner that will be shown throughout the Carnival on the Digital Marketing Stations. These banners are also great for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, retirement, or just because. Click here to purchase a banner today!

The $50 Combo Unlimited Ride Wristband for Friday and Saturday is ONLY available until 3pm on Friday, May 10th. Click here to purchase yours today! After that time, Unlimited Ride Wristbands will be $35 for each day at the Carnival Ticket Booth. Carnival is held rain or shine and there are no refunds for wristband purchases.

Unlimited Ride Wristband vouchers will be sent home starting Monday, May 6th. Vouchers are turned in at the Carnival Ticket Booth sponsored by The Tiongco Family for a wristband! We thank Dr. and Mrs. Tiongco for their ongoing support for our events. Will Call will also be at the Ticket Booth. Can’t wait to see you there!

Do you have your Shrimp Fest 2024 ticketsThe deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday, May 8th at noon. Tickets are $45 per person (adult or child).  The event is May 9 from 6-10pm and is held rain or shine. Included are all-you-can-eat Wicker’s Crab Pot shrimp, BBQ, cole slaw, hush puppies, onion rings, baked beans, soft drinks, and adult beverages. Tickets are not refundable.

Want to see your child/children smile? Name a Carnival Ride after them!! You will smile because you get a Reserved VIP Parking Space for both Friday and Saturday, 2 Unlimited Ride Wristbands for Friday and Saturday, 2 VIP Tent tickets for Friday and Saturday, a digital banner on the Digital Marketing Stations, Weekly Acknowledgement in the Carnival Newsletter, Family or Child(ren) Names on the Carnival website, and Child(ren) Names on a Yard Sign at the Carnival Ride of your choice! Ride Sponsorship is $1,000 and can be purchased here

“Hair of the Dog” Party Tent is being sponsored by Irwin’s Pharmacy right down the street from us! We are grateful for the continued support from Dr. and Mrs. Campbell. Make sure you stop by the “Hair of the Dog” Party Tent for some refreshments, but you must be 21 or older.

CARNIVAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SIGNED UP SO FAR, BUT WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP, ESPECIALLY FOR SATURDAY BREAK-DOWN & CLEAN UP! Our annual SMS Carnival is only successful through the efforts of our many parent volunteers. We have time slots available for you to sign up at many different booths and games. All of the sign ups can be found here:

From the Library – Everyone needs a good beach read for the summer. Let St. Matthew’s book fair help you out! Next week students will have the opportunity to preview the fair and make wishlists. Here are the featured titles for elementary and middle school. The Bedford Falls book fair starts after school on Friday, May 10th, and runs through Friday, May 17th. Students may purchase books during their library classes or after school. Attached is information on the kidcredit program if you would like to prepay for your students’ books. There is a 6% sales tax. Please contact Ms. Reavis ([email protected]) with any questions.

Forensics Announcement
  – Congratulations to the students who competed in the April 27th Humor competition at St. Patrick’s! Representing St. Matthews were 4th graders Jisca Riel, June Rekkedal, and Rosilyn Merritt; 5th grader: Isabella Kowalski; 6th Grader: Jessica Wang; 7th graders: Evan Anthony, Lea Yost and Ellen Erickson. And taking 5th place overall in the meet was Ellen Erickson!

This concludes a very successful Forensics season and the Inaugural Season for the Tidewater Catholic Forensics League.
The Forensics party is on the 9th of May, and all club members and families are invited…after school in Mrs. Jamo’s classroom.

VIRTUS TRAINING – In accordance with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop’s Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People all diocesan employees, clergy, religious, teachers, staff, and all volunteers who regularly or routinely work with children or youth participate in a Protecting God’s Children for Adults (VIRTUS) training session. This link connects to the VIRTUS website listing of currently scheduled training sessions within the Diocese of Richmond. To register for one of the sessions, click the Start Registration button. You will be prompted to create a user id and password. Follow the prompts to continue the registration process. After entering your personal information, a drop down function will enable you to select a Diocese of Richmond training center location/date/time. Continue to follow instructions as indicated to complete the pre-registration process. Childcare is not available unless noted on the session listing. There is no charge for this training. Sessions are available online and in person. St. Matthew’s School VIRTUS Facilitator Louise Lewis will be hosting online VIRTUS sessions on the following dates and times:

Saturday 5/4/24 @ 9am –  6 spots available
Saturday 5/18/24 @ 9am –  15 spots available
Thursday 5/30/2024 @ 6pm – 13 spots available

These sessions are available for registration on the VIRTUS website, although it is not required that you take VIRTUS with the SMS Facilitator. Please contact Louise Lewis at [email protected] if you have any questions.

The Cub Scouts are looking for American flags that need to be retired. We are having a flag retirement ceremony on May 18th. They can be turned in at the office until May 17th.
